The Year So Far & Goal Setting
Once again, I spent hours of my life writing a post only to accidentally delete the whole thing. Yes, I nearly threw the entire laptop out the window. It had jokes and everything, and the only thing worse than a bad joke is a joke that is lost to the void.
I digress. This is a good post! A post all about the things I have achieved up until this point - 2nd of August - and all the things I plan to get done by the end of the year. Which, if the next five months pass as quickly as the previous seven have, will be here before we even have time to take a breath.
Which is mostly why I wanted to sit down and take stock of what’s happened/happening in my life, because it’s all too easy to let it all pass you by. And I feel that, although I have managed to cram quite a lot in this year, I’ve not really had any set goals to focus my mind on. I do vaguely remember writing down a list of things I wanted to achieve this year in my diary, but I know for certain I’ve not even sniffed that list since. I have a feeling I had even planned to do a ‘no spend year’, but cocked that up within about 3 days. Once off the post-Christmas comedown, I hit the shops hard. And I’ve not stopped hitting the shops since.
Let's rewind to the beginning of the year.
The one thing I was determined to do this year was go back to university. I didn’t know what I was going to study, I didn’t know where I was going to go, and I didn’t know how I wanted to do it, but I wanted to get that degree. The only spanner in the works was my reluctance to leave full time employment - both for the money and the experience.
Enter The Open University. Once I realised that you can get a tuition loan to cover your fees, I immediately enrolled on an Open Degree, and I’ve not looked back. I can’t say that studying full time alongside working full time and trying to maintain some semblance of a normal life has been the easiest task in the world, but I have enjoyed my first year.
This year I also got my PCOS diagnosis, despite the absolute shitshow that came afterwards - you can read more about that here. I also came off of all my medication for the first time in five years (before going back on it a couple weeks ago, but that’s nothing to be ashamed about), and I had a stable seven months with my mental health for the first time in a long time. Maybe not the biggest achievements, but certainly ones I’m proud of. I’ve also held down a fulltime job, made good friends in this new city, and been to plenty of local drag shows.
It’s been a good year! Recently it’s been a fucking roller coaster, but then that is just life. I’m proud of what I’ve done so far this year, and I’m excited to see what I can achieve in the next five months.
